Nature of request
Letter to Edward I from Ralph, Bishop of Carlisle, complaining that certain excommunicated people are occupying the church of Kirkland by force, preventing him from exercising his office there, and that although the King has often written to the Sheriff of Cumberland at his request, he has done nothing. He asks the King to have this lay force removed and this rebellion crushed, so that he can exercise his spiritual office in the church.
