Nature of request
Garner recounts that in April in the fourth year of the king's reign (1403) certain lieges of Bayonne loaded in a ship called 'St Pier' of Ondarroa, of which Lope was the owner and Sanchez the master, various merchandises including 49 tuns of oil from Seville, which was shared between the lieges of Bayonne and Dartmouth, and Vyle, then admiral of certain ships of Bayonne, with his company, took and kept for themselves 25 tuns of this oil, whereby the council ordered him to make restitution to the petitioner for this oil. The petitioner requests that letters of commission in this matter be sent to Bayonne with Pierz, giving him power and authority to force the [captains and] owners of the ships which were in Vyle's company to make restitution and full satisfaction to the petitioner for the 25 tuns of oil. He also requests that other letters of commission be directed to the mayor, eschevins, jurors and council of Bayonne, the lieutenant, seneschal, constable and council of Bordeaux and the judge of Gascony ordering them to assist the said serjeant in this matter and to ordain due remedy and restitution for the petitioner.
