Nature of request
The master and brethren request remedy against Pynham who, plotting the destruction of the hospital, for the past 20 years has brought many false suits by the King's writ and otherwise against the petitioners' servants and tenants in the hospital's lands of Whitfield, River and Coldred, because of which the said servants and tenants have been fined grievously, and Pynham also has caused the said servants and tenants to be put on inquests and juries so that they have lost the greater part of their goods and chattels in issues and amercements, so that the petitioners have lost the greater part of the profit from these lands.
