- The Master and brothers of the Hospital of the Maison Dieu of Dover, which was founded by the king's ancestors and other good people to receive poor people going overseas and coming from overseas at Dover, state that the king recently asked them, by his writ, to find maintenance for life for John Lamb, his mariner of Dover, which they have done, and that he has now sent William son of Thomas le Charetter of Grove and Henry de Oldyngton with similar writs. If they are to support all these people it will be a great drain on their resources, and harm their ability to provide the alms for which they were founded, and so they request a remedy which will enable them to sustain these alms.
