Nature of request

Hugh de Wyrescestre, burgess and merchant of London, states that Henry Hathorp and John Tacer, merchants of Lubeck, owed him a certain sum for merchandise bought from him, which they did not pay, and, because he could not distrain them for this sum, he sued to the Mayor and Sheriffs of London to attach the goods of other merchants of Lubeck, Henry de Beyvere, John Saffran, and John le Wyte, for payment. These merchants, however, answered before the Mayor and Sheriffs that they were not from Lubeck, and, although Hugh was ready to prove by record of Chancery that they were, it was found by inquest that they were not, and Hugh lost his suit. He requests a writ to the Mayor and Sheriffs to prove the origin of these merchants by record of Chancery, so that he can have his debt.

Nature of endorsement

[On face] The roll of Chancery for the ninth year of the present King is to be examined, and there the names of Henry de Beyvere, John Saffran, and John le Wyte will be found, at the suit of William de Wredeslade in the ninth year of King Edward.[On dorse] Walter de Byroum is to be summoned, in order to search the rolls of Chancery for the processes held between William de Wredeslade and Henry Saffran etc.
