Description

Report/letter of William Henry Ashhurst (adding to an earlier conversation) on John Williams, convicted in May 1792. Grounds for clemency: ill health (a rupture and a recent dislocated shoulder), unable to work and unlikely to survive transportation. Initial sentence: transportation. Recommendation: offence did not deserve mitigation, but because of ill health speaks in favour of a pardon. Annotated that he was to transport himself for life. Folios 189-190.
