Nature of request
The petitioners seek a letter under the privy seal or a chancery writ to the justices and the mayor of Chester, to enquire upon this petition and certify to the king's council as they find and order remedy. They state that by the king or his ancestors since time without memory etc., the mills of Chester have the right to multure of a fifteenth part of all the grain milled, which mills were recently leased to farm. The farmers have taken corn beyond their right by extortion and by colour of their farm etc., to the great impoverishment of the petitioners, which extortions still continue.
