Report of William Henry Ashhurst on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (4 people, including the mayor and mayor elect of Great Yarmouth and the foreman of the grand jury) on behalf of Thomas Black, of Great Yarmouth, convicted at the Norfolk Assizes at Norwich for a common larceny and stealing 3 bars of iron from a cargo ship wrecked off Great Yarmouth. The judge suspected the iron bars to be part of the cargo and not a part of the ship. There is also a covering letter/petition from H. Hobart. Grounds for clemency: of previous good character, spent his youth in the King's service, is old and infirm only stole to procure common necessities. Initial sentence: not given. Recommendation: free pardon.
