Folio 309: Harcourt to Rochford. A report in French just received. The clergy's loan, which was to have been 12 million will only be 8 million. This upset Boynes' plans. The king has sold to the town of Bordeaux for 8 million the chateau Trompette, which will allowthe town to expand on the side of the harbour. This money will go to the navy. Breaking the ties between England and Portugal will depend on Spain. 3 warships at Toulon are to prepare for a secret expedition in August. 5 or 6 ships are to be prepared in the Mediterranean to protect shipping against the Russians and pirates.
