Description

Yorktown, Virginia. Cochran arrived; only a direct move to York River and a successful naval action can save Cornwallis; describes enemy works and cannonade since the 9th; has lost 70 men and suffered considerable damage to the works, cannot make a long resistance; two postscripts, one of 12 Oct., report further losses of men and advances by the enemy.
