Description

Short title: Gifford v Hickeringill.

Plaintiff(s): Hope Gifford and his wife Martha.

Defendant(s): Edmund Hickeringill, clerk.

Subject of depositions: Castle of Colchester and the lands adjoining and belonging, lands called "Castle lands" in or near Colchester (Essex), lands or fields called "The Castle Bayley" and "Sheeps Head Field." Whether parcel of the lands heretofore belonging to the Rt Hon Chas. Lord Stanhopp, Baron of Harrington, and to Simon Potter? Tithes. Whether said lands were extra-parochial? [The names and possessions of Sir James Norfolk (plaintiff Martha's late father), Robert Northfolke (plaintiff Martha's late brother), Dorothy (late daughter of said Robert), George Brooke, late of Aspell Hall (Suffolk), and his wife Mary, and Edward Brooke, son of said George, and his wife Mary, and Sir John Shaw, knight, are mentioned.

County/place: Essex; Suffolk.

Date of commission: 28 November 1692.

Additional information: interrogatories and depositions taken 19 January 1693 at Colchester.
