Description

Short title: Duke of Somerset v Porter.

Plaintiff(s): Charles Duke of Somerset and his wife Elizabeth Duchess of Somerset, John Patteson.

Defendant(s): Joseph Porter, Cuthbert Steele, Anthony Stamper, Thomas Reed, Thomas Rooke, Hugh Wilson, John Lawrence, John Smith, Christopher Hodgson, Thomas Brough, Anthony Turner, John Alne, Robert Wood, Mungo Tiffin.

Subject of depositions: Manor of Bolton (Cumberland), and the water corn-mill belonging. Touching the payment of "multure, haver, or oates" by the tenants of a part of the manor called Bolton Wood, who may be exempted from the custom of "suit and service" to the mill. (i.e. grinding corn).

County/place: Cumberland.

Date of commission: 28 November 1685.

Additional information: interrogatories and depositions taken 15 January 1686 at Reddyall, delivered into Court 3 May 1686.
