Description

Short title: Attorney General v Aldermen of Newark-upon-Trent.

Plaintiff(s): Attorney General.

Defendant(s): Aldermen and assistants, inhabitants of Newark-upon-Trent.

Subject of depositions: Right and title to the profits of courts within the borough, and the tolls, of the fairs or markets of Newark, formerly belonging to the Bishops of Lincoln; touching lease of same (17 Eliz) by the Queen to John White, assignment by him to Peter Rosse, and by him to defendant's predecessors. Customs of borough and market. Metes and bounds. Survey. [Leases made by John Bishop of Lincoln of the tolls, to Anthony Foster, temp Henry VIII, the inhabitants of Northgate, castle of Newark, Elizabeth late Countess of Rutland, Giles Foster, Edward Earl of Rutland, William Cecil Lord Burghleigh, farmer of tolls, Matthew Wilson, and Gregory Levers, are mentioned].
