Description

Short title: Mason v Gawton.

Plaintiff(s): Richard Mason, Rudolph Knevett.

Defendant(s): Richard Gawton, clerk, vicar of the vicarage of Hemelhempsted.

Subject of depositions: Rectory and lordship and late hospital of Hemelhempstead (Hertford), and mills in Hemelhempstead (Hertford), of which Mr Waterhouse is lessee for life andplaintiffs are under-tenants; whether plaintiffs and their predecessors are and have been exonerated from payment of all tithes for such mills, and the fishings belonging, by reason of their payment of 6s 8d first to the dissolved late monastery of Barkhampstead and since to the Crown? [The rectory and tithes of Ashridge are mentioned].

County/place: Hertford.

Date of commission: 29 November 1591.
