Order from governor as acting viceroy to hong merchants. According to a despatch from the Hoppo the hong merchants say that as the vessel concerned did not enter port they do not know what part of India she comes from, that they have no knowledge of the person Ti-ta said to be her captain, and that Magniac, said to be the merchant concerned, left for India last year. The evasion and delay is outrageous and unless within 10 days the information is provided and the murderer handed over, the hong merchants will be thrown into chains. (Dated: 6m 24d).
