Description

Receipts for Balances of Wages.

  • 'Vol 2. Clyde, Alster Middle of the Book, Tynemouth'.
  • A book of pre-printed statements of accounts and receipts for the balances of wages due to men of the Army Works Corps on the termination of their service.
  • These give the man's name, his number in the pay register, the amount paid and date, the man's signature or mark, and the name of the vessel in which he returned home. The men in this volume returned on the SS 'Clyde' (30 May 1856), SS 'Alster' (28 June 1856) or the SS 'Tynemouth' (5 June 1856). In a number of cases the man's trade is also given.
