Description

Paymaster's Ledger.

  • "Army Works Corps Commissariat Department"
  • Contains details of the pay, usually on a weekly basis, of men of the Corps for the period 25 Jan-17 Aug 1856. This ledger contains details of men mainly numbered from 138 to 452. They are not all in numerical order and some numbers are missed.
  • Normally contains a double page per man, with his number. Most entries end with the payment of a gratuity.
  • At the back of the book are brief wages and petty cash accounts.
  • The index to this volume is contained in WO 28/209.
