Description

Entry Book of Divisional and Brigade Orders and Memoranda.

  • "Light Division 1st Brigade Order Book".
  • Brigade Orders of the 1st Brigade, issued by Major General Richard Airey, (at the front) cover the period 16 May to 25 Aug 1854. An After Order and a Morning Order are also included.
  • Divisional Orders of the Light Division, issued by Lieutenant General Sir George Brown, (at the back) cover the period 8 to 25 Jul 1854. There are also some Divisional Morning Orders, After Orders and Memoranda, as well as District Orders and Memoranda. Most were signed by either W[illiam] Sullivan, Assistant Adjutant General of the Division. The front sheet of this section bears the name of Major K[enneth] D[ouglas] Mackenzie, the Brigade Major [of the 1st Brigade].
  • There is a table of the Field Officers of the Light Division with 'Dates of Doing Duty' inside the front cover. The names are in order of seniority, with regiment, seniority dates and dates of duty. It is incomplete giving only 5 dates of duty. Another table at the back of the volume lists the three regiments of the Brigade with the dates on which the regiments performed guard and fatigue duties, with the numbers involved.
  • A loose sheet dated 10 Apr 1855 is a notice offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of a lost horse.
