Administrative / biographical background

The Commission for Integrated Transport was launched in July 1999 and comprised a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, four ex-officio members and 11 appointed for impartiality, expertise and wide experience in the transport sector, including environmental groups. The purpose of the Commission was to monitor and provide advice on the integrated transport policy principally by evidence based research. The Commission published reports, including those on: National Road Traffic Targets (November 1999), Local Transport Plans (December 1999), Pollution from Older Vehicles (March 2000), and 44 Tonne Lorries (March 2000). The Government issued an official response, 'Tackling Congestion and Pollution', to the report on national road traffic targets in January 2000. The Commission was disbanded in 2010 as part of a review of Non-Departmental Public Bodies.
