Description

Captured ship: Young David of Amsterdam (commander Jan Tielingh otherwise Tileing).

History: a Dutch privateer (45 tons, 2 guns), bound on a cruise from [Amsterdam?]; taken [in October 1673] by HMS Yarmouth ([Ralph] Lassells commanding) and brought first into Scarborough, and then into London.

Court Papers, numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: commission, 15 April 1674;
  • [CP 2]: appraisement of ship made at Scarborough, 20 June 1674;
  • [CP 3]: bill of sale, 16 July 1674.

  • SP 1: privateer commission issued by Willem, Prince of Orange, at The Hague, 30 August 1672, for Jan Tielingh to command an unnamed privateer, registered by the Amsterdam admiralty, 2 September 1672, annotated by customs officers at the Texel, 29 September 1672;
  • SP 2 States-General proclamation, 14 April 1672;
  • SP 3 States-General proclamation, 11 April 1673.
