Captured ship: St John of Bilbao (master Gonzalo de la Villa).
History: a Spanish merchant ship, bound from Bilbao and Santona to Ostend, laden with wool, Castile soap, oranges, lemons and hazelnuts; taken in September 1673 by HMS Dover ([Richard Hudson commanding]), and brought into Rye.
32/ Allegation [and claim], 21 November 1673, of Gonzalo de la Villa, and Don Benito de Rucavado and John de Sesumaga, subjects of Spain. Don Benito de Rucavado and John de Sesumaga residents at Bilbao, great merchants in wool, Castile soap and fruit from Bilbao to Ostend. Ship belonged to Bilbao with the same master for last 3-8 years, Don Benito de Rucavado is sole owner. Laden at Santona and Bilbao in September 1673 with wool, soap, oranges, lemons and hazelnuts for Ostend.
