Prisoner name: Donald McCaffer.
Court and Date of Trial: Argyll Sheriff's court, November 1847.
Crime: Assault.
Initial sentence: 15 months imprisonment.
Outcome: Nil.
Petitions and letters: Petition from the prisoner himself in Campbelltown gaol, Argyllshire, seeking a free pardon on grounds that custody has so aggravated his epilepsy that it threatens his life. Three surgeons' letters attached, confirming he has epilepsy and that being in prison worsens this. Sherriff's report obtained. The Indictment is sent. Noted that he is prone to intoxication and imprisoned before. The health risk is deemed insufficient to warrant discharge.
