Court and Date of Trial: Berkshire quarter sessions, January 1849.
Crime: Stealing books.
Initial sentence: Transportation for seven years.
Gaoler's Report: Twice before convicted.
Outcome: Insane. Removed to Devizes asylum, thence to Littlemore asylum in 1850.
Petitions and letters: Application by visiting Justices at Reading gaol to remove the prisoner, native to the parish of Buscot, Berks, to an asylum, arrangements for her maintenance to be made by the Magistrates. Certificate of insanity signed by surgeon and physician attached, also Magistrates order that the Faringdon Union pay 10 shillings per week for her maintenance at Devizes asylum. Second application in 1850 by the clerk to the Board of Guardians at Faringdon Union asking for her removal to Littlemore asylum, Oxon, where she can be maintained for only 9 shillings weekly.
