Page: 93.
Name: [unspecified] Henderson.
Occupation: Horse Boy.
Place of accident: Arthington, Yorkshire.
Injury: Fatally scalded
Details of accident: As the 8:30 AM Goods train from Leeds to Pateley Bridge was shunting and, whilst the Engine was opposite the Goods Warehouse, the boiler burst, doing considerable damage to the Warehouse and more or less scalding 4 persons. The child died two days afterwards. The Copy of Verdict of the Jury is recorded, noting that it was an 'Accidental Death'. It is noted that 'the Jury cannot refrain from stressing the opinion that the present system of (the) steam circuits? ( the text is difficult to decipher at this point and appears to be an abbreviation) of the Engines on the North Eastern Railway is very defective from the evidence laid before them, there appears to be no means of fully scanning the internal state of the boilers except once every 2 or 3 years.
