Folios 411-412: William Mitchell, HMS Resolution, Torbay. He has enquired into the background of William Gray, who claims to be an American citizen, following a request for a report. He says he was born in Sceainsboro, Lake Champlain in New York State, and was taken in a French merchant ship by HMS Castor and sent to Porchester Prison until July 1799. He then entered the navy service and was sent on board HMS Royal William, then HMS Resolution. He never received any bounty and has no papers or documents, which were taken by the French.
