Description

Folios 375-376: J. Halford, Beaufort Buildings, Strand. Enclosing a Commission from Rear Admiral Rainier appointing Captain Alexander Milner to the command of HMS Resistance, and requesting confirmation.

Folio 377: enclosure with folios 375-376. Document dated 8 July 1797 and 5 August 1798, appointing Lieutenant Alex Milner of HMS Suffolk as Commander of HMS Swift in the place of Captain Hayward appointed to HMS Resistance. Vice Captain Pakenham was removed to HMS Trident and Captain Osborn transferred to HMS Arrogant on the death of Captain Lucas.

Folios 378-379: enclosure with folios 375-376. Document noting HMS Swift staff have been paid up to 31 July 1797, the vessel being supposed to have been lost about the beginning of that month.

Folio 380: enclosure with folios 375-376: note that HMS Resistance was said to be lost 24 July 1798

Folios 381-382: enclosure with folios 375-376. Duplicate Commission from Rear Admiral Peter Rainier appointing Alexander Milner, acting Captain of HMS Trident as Captain of HMS Resistance.
