Description

Short title: Wimberley, Corey, Harris, Yorke, Johnson, Greene, Ringham, Hooke, Thirkell, Stanley, and Thirkell v Harris, Weatherhogg, Weatherhogg, Wright, Pridgeon, Adlard, Steele, Jelley, and May.

Plaintiff(s): Bevill Wimberley, Francis Corey, Richard Harris, Michael Yorke, William Johnson, William Greene, Francis Ringham, Ambrose Hooke, clerk, Robert Thirkell, William Stanley, and William Thirkell.

Defendant(s): Katherine Harris, Thomas Weatherhogg, John Weatherhogg, Thomas Wright, John Pridgeon, John Adlard, Robert Steele, Henry Jelley, and William May.

Subject of depositions: Four townships of Sutton St. Maries, Sutton St. Nicholas alias Lutton, Sutton St. James, and Sutton St. Edmunds (Lincoln), and a certain number of acres (said to be 2,450 acres) in Sutton Marsh set apart as a common for the inhabitants of the townships. Touching a suit (just before April 1683) concerning 1,000 acres (parcel of 2,450 acres) and endeavours for raising money for preserving and defending the commoner's right in the ground. Meetings, debates, &c., and an agreement of some of the commoners to enclose 80 acres of the common, to raise money for that object, in preference to the raising of money being done 'by contribute' on or 'acreshotts', &c., &c..

County: Lincoln.

Date of commission: 18 June 1684. Interrogatories and depositions taken 16 October 1684 at St. Maryes.
