Folios 301-302: Wilson Rathbone, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the cases of Thomas Harley and Joseph Clark of HMS Ceres. Harley was impressed by Lieutenant Nathaniel France at Newcastle on 29 November as being an apprentice being illegally protected as a Greenland man. Lieutenant France had been ordered to impress him because he had deserted his service at London in April 1808. Encloses his indenture and a letter threatening Lieutenant France with prosecution. Clark was impressed by Lieutenant Thomas Flinn at North Shields on 5 December when he was found straggling ashore. Despite what it says in the enclosed petition, Clark had served two years at sea.
Folios 303-304: enclosed with folios 301-302. Letter from Alexander Anderson, Manager, the Tay Shipping Co, Aberdeen, to the Admiralty, 16 December 1810. He has learned the Thomas Hally, an officer of one of the company's ships, was impressed and put aboard the tender HMS Eliza at Shields, sent to the Nore and transferred to HMS Ceres. Believes the Impress Officers have acted illegally as Hally was protected, asks for his discharge as the Calypso, to which he was engaged, is due to sail for the Davis Strait in a fortnight.
Folios 305-306: enclosed with folios 301-302. Letter from Alexander Anderson, Manager, the Tay Shipping Co, Aberdeen, to Lieutenant Frances [Nathaniel France] of the Impress Service, Newcastle, 4 December 1810. Is surprised to learn that he has impressed Thomas Hally, who is an officer of one of the company's whaling ships, because he allegedly has not fulfilled his engagement to a former Master, who can sue in the courts if he has been wronged. As Hally is engaged for an upcoming voyage, is he is not instantly discharged a legal action will be brought against the officer who impressed him.
Folios 307-308: enclosed with folios 301-302. Petition signed by Alice Clark, South Street, Millbourn Place, North Shields, to the Admiralty, 17 December 1810. Asks for the discharge of her husband Joseph Clark, a ships's carpenter, who was impressed on 5 December and is now aboard HMS Ceres at the Nore.
Folio 309: enclosed with folios 301-302. Certificate signed Thomas Dawson of North Shields, Master Mariner, 5 December 1810. Certifies that he has appointed Joseph Clark as Carpenter of the Changeable of North Shields. Sworn before Richard Barker, Master Extraordinary in Chancery.
