Description

Folios: 362v-363. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter D. Settlement of a dispute.

First party: The prior and convent of Ormesby [Ormsby].

Second party: Master John Galle of Salfletby [Saltfleetby].

Place or subject: Whereas a dispute has arisen between the prior and convent of Ormesby [Ormsby] on the one part and Master John Galle of Salfletby [Saltfleetby] on the other, concerning annual rents sought and due on both sides, namely 4s 4d were sought by the prior and convent from a certain tenement in Saltfleetby called Orrecroft, and on the part of Master John 3s were sought for a moiety of the site and pond of one mill in Cokerinthon [Cockerington], of which Master Philip Galle was enfeoffed by John de Wyhum, who demised it to him, it was at last agreed between the parties that, as reagrds quantities, there were made on both sides remissions of 3s of annual rent forever. And because in the petition of the prior and convent there were sought 16d of annual rent, which exceded John's pension, John himself agreed that he and his heirs or assigns would pay these 16d to the prior and convent per annum forever at two terms, namely 8d in the octave of Easter and 8d in the octave of Michaelmas, for all services, suits of courts and other demands pertaining to that tenement. And so all actions were remitted on both sides. Saving both to John and his heirs the right of seeking, if they have anything, when they see it expedient, that, according to the tenor of their charters, without multure, they might grind in the same mill, and also to the prior and convent lawful defences, liberties or remedies concerning their petition.

County: [Lincolnshire].

Additional people: Witnesses: Gilbert de Cokerinthon [Cockerington]; William, son of Andrew de Sumercotes [Somercotes]; Robert, son of John of the same; Robert de Sadeword; Philip Vavasur [Vavasour]; Andrew de Schupholm; and William de Salfletby [Saltfleetby], clerk.
