Description

Captured ship: Cloyster [Klooster] otherwise Cloister of Varberg, otherwise Wasbergh (master Pieter Cornelis Vlielander, otherwise Peter Cornelisson Vlielandt of Katwijk, citizen of Varberg.)

History: a Swedish merchant ship ( 80-100 tons, 6 men, built at Varberg in the Dutch style about 3 years before), bound from Amsterdam to La Rochelle, in ballast; came into Plymouth harbour on 11/21 August 1672 for fear of the Turks [Barbary corsairs?] and because of contrary winds, and was there seized on 13/23 August 1672.

  • [CP 1]: three examinations taken at Plymouth, 13 August 1672.

Extra information:-

  • IND 1/9012, f.10: ship and cargo restored to owner Mr Silvercroon, 30 August 1672.
  • HCA 30/882, p. 58:18 ships papers were received 27 August 1672 - and probably restored.
