Description

Captured ship: Generous Hannah of London (master Edward Rich).

History: an English merchant ship (140 tons) bound from the River Forth in Scotland to London, laden with wheat, linen, and shiffs; taken on 29 June / 9 July 1694 off Aberdeen by two French privateers, retaken on 4/14 July 1694 off Flanders by HMS James Galley (Joseph Soanes commanding), and brought into Harwich.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 6:

  • [CP 1]: one examination;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in London;
  • [CP 3]: attestation relating to the ship and its voyage;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: commission of appraisement, inventory;
  • [CP 6]: a receipt for salvage money paid.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, paying salvage 18 July 1694].
