Captured ship: François or St Francis of Dieppe (master Jean Langlois).
History: a French ship (25 tons, 2 guns), bound from La Rochelle to Brest, laden with brandy; taken on 17/27 May 1696 off the coast of Brittany by the privateer Defiance (John Gruchy commanding), and brought into Guernsey.
