Description

Captured ship: Fountain of Gluckstadt (master Jan Westphalen).

History: a Danish merchant ship (96 tons) bound from Gluckstadt to Lisbon, laden with tar, pitch, quills, wire, steel and wax; taken on 11/21 April 1691 off the [Goodwin] Sands by HMS Portsmouth (William Whetstone commanding) and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 1]: two examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Denmark;
  • [CP 3]: abstracts and translations of 4 ship's papers [all these papers were restored].

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 12 May 1691].
