Captured ship: St Antonio de Padua or St Anthony of Padua of Lisbon (master Manuel Pirez).
History: a Portuguese ship (50 tons, at least one French passenger), bound from Lisbon to Le Havre via St Malo, laden with almonds, oranges, lemons, Alicante soap, seeds for making scarlet dye and musical instruments; taken on 9/19 October 1694, off Barneville-Carteret by the privateers Flying Horse (George Bennett commanding) and Soldado (William Allen commanding), and brought into Jersey. The crew of the St Anthonio de Padua claimed that they had been plundered of much of their cargo off Cape Finisterre by an unnamed French privateer, which they had feared to be a 'Turk' man of war and initially fled from; one crew-member claimed that the French privateer tore up their ship's papers.
