Description

Captured ship: Angel Raphael of Stettin (master Joachim Wolters).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (50 lasts), bound from Stettin to Amsterdam, laden with potash, shovels, sheep skins; taken in May or June 1694 by HMS Essex (William Wright commanding) and HMS Edgar (Andrew Pedder commanding), and brought into the River Thames.

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: three claims;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: two attestations from Amsterdam;
  • [CP 6]: attestation that the captors took this and several other Stettin ships, which had previously been taken by the French, in May and June 1694 and sent them into the River Thames;
  • [CP 7]: certification that the cargoes of the six Stettin ships retaken from the French by HMS Essex or HMS Edgar had been unladen in London; the ships being the:-
    • Angel Raphael (master Joachim Wolters);
    • Prophet Daniel (master Daniel Kruse);
    • Patience (master Christoffer Fryday);
    • Hope (master Hans Wegener);
    • Prince Michael (master David Bliesen);
    • St Michael (master Christian Nykant).
  • [CP 8]: order in Council remitting the salvage on four of the Stettin ships;
  • [CP 9]: affidavit of the value of the Angel Raphael, given as £150 for ship and cargo.

[Decision: restored paying salvage, 7 June 1694]
