Gopal Mukund HUDDAR alias Bala HUDDAR: Indian. A left-wing student in London in the 1930s, HUDDAR went to fight in the Spanish Civil War in 1937. He was captured by Franco forces, imprisoned but released in 1938. He returned to India at the end of 1938 and was reported to have been met on arrival by prominent Indian communists. It is claimed he was the only Indian to have fought in the International Brigade. With photograph
