Description

Captured ship: De Vreyheid of Amsterdam (master Jacob Obbes).

History: a Dutch ship, bound from Enkhuizen to St Croix [Santa Cruz, now Agadir] in Barbary, laden with steel, bale goods, wine and silver bullion; taken on 7/18 December 1745 in latitude 44°N by the privateers Terrible (Robert Halliburton commanding) and Dursley Galley (Organ Furnell commanding), and brought into Liverpool.

  • [CP 6]: attestation to payment of freight by Obbes;
  • [CP 7-CP 10]: two sets of attestation and claims by merchants in London and Amsterdam, brought into court 10 April 1746;
  • [CP 11]: release of interest;
  • [CP 12-CP 13]: two attestations relating to the freight of silver, brought into court 17 June 1746;
  • [CP 14]: on set of attestations, taken and sealed by the ruling authority of Amsterdam, brought into court 4 September 1746;
  • [CP 15-CP 18]: commission, two attestations, release of interest, brought into court 2 October 1746;
  • [CP 19-CP 23]: three attestations, exhibited freight agreement, brought into court 23 October 1746;
  • [CP 24]: allegation, brought into court 5 December 1746;
  • [CP 25-CP 36]: 5 sets of attestations on behalf of Dutch merchants, with accounts and translations, brought into court 5 March 1746/7;
  • [CP 37-CP 39]: report of the Admiralty Register relating to the cargo of bullion, with two schedules, brought into court 14 July 1747;
  • [CP 40-CP 45]: two attestations as to papers, docket, three sets of abstracts and translations covering the two sets of ship's papers brought in;

Ship's Papers numbered SP A/1-SP B/11, bills of lading, invoices, freight agreements.

[Decision: restored with costs and damages, 5 December 1746]
