Description

Captured ship: La Vierge Marie of Pont-Croix (master Alain Le Borgne otherwise Alaiz Le Born).

History: a French merchant ship (30 tons, 5 men), bound from San Sebastian to Audierne, laden with rosin, tar and deal boards; taken on 1/12 June 1747 in the Bay of Arcasson by the privateer Cumberland (John Mauger commanding), and brought into Guernsey.

  • [CP 3]: allegation;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 21 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 21, bills of lading, letters, receipts, customs papers, a playing card: the eight of hearts.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 1 September 1747]
