Description

Captured ship: L'Épreuve previously the Tryal privateer of Guernsey (French master Simon Tanguy).

History: a French ship (chasse marée, 12 tons, 5 men), bound from Audierne to St Jean de Luz, laden with hides, corn and cloth; taken on 19/30 May 1748 off the coast of Arcachon by the privateer Cumberland (William Coutart commanding), and brought into Penzance and then Guernsey.
