Description

Captured ship: L'Entendant of Calais (master Nicolas Bachelier or Bachellier).

History: a French privateer (30 tons, 4 guns, 42 men); taken on 22 November 1745 by HMS Surprise (James Webb commanding), and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations taken at Deal, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 3 ship's papers.
