Captured ship: St Elmo otherwise Nuestra Senora de Candelaria y las Animas otherwise El Dragon of Tenerife, formerly the English Mary (commander Don Pasqual de Sossa).
History: a Spanish privateer (130 tons, 10 carriage guns, 8 swivel guns, 102 men), bound from Tenerife on a cruise; taken on 6 April 1748 off Madeira by HMS Chesterfield (O'Brien Dudley commanding), and brought into Funchal.
