Captured ship: Three Friends (master Jonathan Coffin).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (schooner, 75 tons, 10 men) bound from St Eustatius to North Carolina, laden with salt and dry goods; taken on 14 May 1778 about 4 leagues N of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina by HMS Ariel (Charles Phipps commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to the United States.
