Captured ship: Three Friends (master Jonathan Coffin).
History: an American merchant ship (schooner, 75 tons, 10 men), bound from St Eustatius to North Carolina, laden with salt and dry goods; taken on 14 May 1778 about 4 leagues north of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina by HMS Ariel (Charles Phipps commanding), and brought into New York.
Court papers: 1-5.
