British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Three Brothers (master Zacheus Coffin).

Capture history: an American merchant ship (schooner, 75 tons, 2 guns, 14 men), bound from Cadiz to Baltimore, laden with wine, dry goods, salt, lemons, oil, olives, raisins, pipes; taken on 13-15 October 1782 off Cape Henry, Virginia, in latitude 37°7'N, longitude 75°40'W by the armed privateer Surprize (John Hall, commanding), and brought into New York.

Intended voyage: from Spain to the United States.

Court papers numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master Isaiah Vallean, 21 October 1782;
  • [CP 2]: libel in Hall v The schooner Three Brothers and her cargo, 21 October 1782;
  • [CP 3]: deposition of Andreas Galway, mariner, of Pennsylvania, 22 October 1782.
