Description

British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Little Molly (master Nathaniel Palmer).

Capture history: an American merchant ship (schooner, 20 tons, formerly the Loyalist Yankey Witch taken 6 July 1779 off Egg Harbor); now laden with shingles, and taken on 12 May 1781 in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey by the loyalist privateer Restoration (John McMillan commanding), and brought into New York.

Intended voyage: from the United States to [unknown].

Court papers numbered CP 1-5:-

  • [CP 1]: affidavit of papers (no papers) brought in by the prize master Joseph Smith, 16 May 1781;
  • [CP 2]: libel in McMillan v The schooner Little Molly and her cargo;
  • [CP 3]: monition, 16 May 1781;
  • [CP 4]: answer and claim of Matthias Nicole, John Atkinson, David Dicky and Warren Lisle Nicoll, as owners and crew of the Yankey Witch, 16 May 1781;
  • [CP 5]: replication of John McMillan.

[Decision: condemned, if no response to the monition by 6 June 1781].

[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1-5 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2025].
