Captured ship: Charming Nancy, otherwise Charmante Nancy or Aimable Nancy (master Joseph Moreau).
History: a French merchant ship (schooner, 50 tons) bound from Fort Dauphin [where is this?] to St Pierre et Miquelon, laden with flour, bread and lumber; taken on 17 March 1777 off Cape Henry by HMS Emerald (Benjamin Caldwell commanding), and brought into New York.
