Captured ship: La Betsey (original French master not named).
Capture history: a French merchant ship (snow, 200 tons, 4 guns, 8 men [of the American prize crew]), bound from Saint Domingue to France, laden with sugar, coffee, rum, elephant's teeth, indigo; taken first on 25 August 1778 by HMS Savage (John Graves commanding); retaken on 1 September 1778 by the American privateer Oliver Cromwell (Thomas Simmons commanding); taken for the third time on 6 September 1778 in latitude 47°'N, longitude 25°W of London by HMS Squirrel (Captain [Henry] Harvey commanding) and the merchant ship Polly (master John Kinghorn), part of Harvey's convoy from Senegal to London, and brought into Portsmouth.
Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to France.
