Folios 63-64: Charles Malcolm, HMS Rhin at sea. States that yesterday Mr Hodges went on board the Mary Privateer belonging to Messrs Hart Birdwood & Co. of Plymouth as she was very well manned and we were short requested him to bring two men. One had only been at sea for a year and the other between six or seven years in the coasting trade. Offered him in lieu a"thoroughbred seaman" who had been at sea 25 years. Also being an American could not keep him having got him two days before out of a neutral. The Master of the privateer, John Tregouthy, made use of the most violent language to the officer. Explains the conversation and states an incident with a French brig and HMS Plover.
