Folios 288-289: Thomas Lavie, Chatham. Encloses an account of the volunteers enrolled in the Sea Fencibles on the River Medway. An Officer he sent to Maidstone advises that the Boatmen there have not come forward so he will proceed to visit there to have a meeting to deal with their objections. Advises he was earlier at Queenborough and Milton and asks if he can enrol young men belonging to the Fishery who are not family men. Asks for directions about the particular form of protections to be given which he proposes should be signed by the Mayor or Chief Magistrate along the River, in addition to his signature.
