Folios 512-513: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 21 April. Thomas Hughes, who said he was born in America, was pressed by Lieutenant Rees on 27 March. He produced a defaced Protection dated 1794, which is evidently not his. His wife and family live in Liverpool. Robert Nixon, born in Liverpool, was pressed on 17 April by Lieutenant Clarke. He said he arrived as Mate of the Ann from New Brunswick, but had no documents. He was taken on shore at night. George Owens, born in Drogheda, was pressed by Lieutenant Evans on 17 April as an Able Seaman. He was mate of the Jane of Drogheda. He was apprehended for having wilfully hidden a man named James Matthews, one of Lieutenant Evans's gang who had freed a Seaman from the Press room when on guard and received £10 for this. He denied this but there was evidence. Mr Matthews was arrested on board the vessel and has been sent on board HMS Piercer as an example to the Gangs. John Brookson, alias Broxan, born in Wigan, was pressed by Lieutenant Evans on 9 March as an Ordinary Seaman. He had been employed as a Collier, but when pressed he had shipped himself to sail in the Venerable. No certificate, or proof of being in the Local Militia, were produced. He returns the enclosures.
Folios 514-515: enclosure with folios 512-513. Petition dated 17 April 1809 by Ellina Hughes, 16 Gragson Street, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Petition for the release of her husband Thomas Hughes, currently on board HMS Salvadore. She already has two sons serving: one on board HMS Sandwich, and the other on HMS Groper.

Request for the discharge of Robert Nixon, Mate of the brig Ann, of St Johns, New Brunswick, who arrived on 16 April. The Master is Thomas Rawleigh. The family are willing to provide a Landsman as substitute.
Folios 518-519: enclosure with folios 512-513. Petition dated 19 April 1809 from Peter MacConcky, c/o Mrs White, High Peacock, Strand Street, Old Dock, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Petition for the discharge of George Owens, Mate of the brig Jane of Drogheda, Ireland.
